Follow-Up MR Imaging for Cerebral Sparganosis.

چکیده
The recent article on follow-up MR imaging for cerebral sparganosis is interesting. Li et al noted, “Migration is a notable feature of cerebral sparganosis.” This finding is quite interesting. Due to its basic nature, sparganosis is usually a chronic localized disease. According to a large series from Thailand, no observation of cerebral migration was noted. The “tunnel” sign is a new finding that was recently reported, but there has been no confirmation on pathology. The question is whether the cases are actual sparganosis with confirmed pathology or whether there is any additional co-occurrence of another migrating cerebral parasitic disease such as gnathostomiasis.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Cerebral sparganosis is a rare parasitic infection caused by sparganum, which can migrate in the brain. The purpose of this study was to demonstrate the migration of cerebral sparganosis and describe its patterns on MR imaging. MATERIALS AND METHODS MR images of 14 patients with cerebral sparganosis treated from 2005 to 2011 were retrospectively reviewed. Diagnosis was ...

BACKGROUND Cerebral sparganosis in children is an extremely rare disease of central nervous system, and caused by a tapeworm larva from the genus of Spirometra. In this study, we discussed and summarized epidemiological, clinical and MR imaging characteristics of eighteen children with cerebral sparganosis for a better diagnosis and treatment of the disease. METHODS Eighteen children with cer...

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Sparganosis is a rare parasitic infection in humans by a larval cestode of the genus Spirometra. Preoperative diagnosis of cerebral sparganosis in the past has been very difficult. Our objective was to evaluate the CT and MR features of cerebral sparganosis in order to make a definite diagnosis. MATERIALS AND METHODS We retrospectively reviewed 25 patients (13 male and ...

The recently published article on cerebral sparganosis was very interesting (1). Indeed, Wang et al. described a relevant case study of sparganosis, which is an uncommon tapeworm infection that is sporadically reported and can be found in many tropical countries. Cerebral sparganosis has been documented in Thailand (2), and it is typically initially identified by brain imaging. One important co...

Human cerebral sparganosis is a rare but neglected parasitic disease. We present details of the diagnosis of two cases of migrating cerebral sparganosis from China based on computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging combined with epidemiological information and serology. Its differentiatial diagnosis from other parasitic diseases, tuberculoma and brain tumor by neuroimaging is briefly d...
